ARE YOU A VICTIM?

My friends tell me that it’s the generation. Children are no longer respectful. They grow up and forget to call their parents. They think highly of themselves and speak disdainfully to their parents. Does this constitute alienation? Not necessarily. Some children are by nature more detached. The main characteristic that would differentiate typical arrogance from alienation is if there is affection from the child to the parent that the child feels is reciprocated. Is there trust? Is there still an awareness of the parent as a giving person in the child’s life? Does the child still see a parent with a respectable value system? These are all positive signs. Hopefully, your child is still yours, albeit with some characteristics that need polishing. That’s normal parenting.
If you want to know if you are a victim to alienation I would highly recommend contacting a professional. Meanwhile feel free to chat on our blog and to hear the thoughts of others that have been there.
